Material and Software Configurations Required - MS SQL

Objective

This page groups different components or configurations recommended to run the SQL server with the maestro* SQL database optimally.

 

Summary

 

Internet and Network Access

  • Internet access is required to authenticate SQL Server licenses and updates;
  • A wired Ethernet network is required:
    • 100 Mb/s minimum;
    • 1Gb/s or more recommended.
  • Wireless connections (WiFi) are not supported.
  • TCP / IP IPv4 must be enabled.
    • TCP / IPv6 is not supported.
  • Port 1433 must be configured to pass through the Windows Firewall.

 

Operating System

The supported operating system is Windows Server 2012 R2 or higher.

 

SQL Server Edition

The standard (or superior) edition is required.

 

.NET Framework

The .NET Framework 4.8 is required for the database engine support.

 

Hard Drive

A minimum of two hard disk of 500 Gb of available space is required. The hard drive must be configured in NTFS file system. FAT32 is not supported.

 

Memory

A minimum of 24 Gb of memory is required.

 

Processors

A minimum of 4 2.2 GHz cores is required.

SQL Server installation is supported only on x64 processors. It is no longer supported on x86 processors.

 

Monitor

A monitor with 1280 x 720 resolution with 16-bit color.

 

Starting with version 3.05, the minimum resolution required is 1366 x 768.

 

Antivirus

The data directory must be excluded from the antivirus scan.

Some antiviruses also require the exclusion of the software installation directory.

 

Additional Information

We recommend running SQL Server on computers with a NTFS or ReFS file format.

Running SQL Server on a virtual machine is slower than running in native mode because of virtualization overhead.
